15-MONTH CHECKUP
Joie had her doctor appointment on 4/1/2008 and she is perfectly healthy!  Praise the Lord!  Here are the stats:
Height:  31.5 inches (75th percentile)
Weight:  25 pounds, 2 ounces (75th percentile)
Head size at 90th percentile

  • 2 shots in her arms -- mmr & chicken pox, didn't even cry a tiny bit.

  • She says several words (mama, dada, uh-oh, up, down, something that sounds like yucky, yes and that), but isn't extremely chatty.

  • She is still very silly with her faces and likes to tease when you ask her to come here or try to give her something, she will come most of the way, then turn around and smile this cute teasing smile.

  • She uses signs and knows some animal sounds.

  • Still loves to throw balls, empty the cabinets/drawers/laundry basket faster than I can pick it up.

  • Still loves to sit and read or be read to.

  • Still loves to dance and turn in circles.

  • She has learned to walk backwards loves to do it.

  • She isn't a picky eater (as you can see from the #'s above) and prefers a straw to a sippy cup. Dr. said that is better for her teeth anyhow.

  • She likes to sweep the floor. I'll be glad when she's good at it, because she is very messy when she eats.

  • She loves to wear her shoes and will often bring them to be put on.

  • She still likes her pacifier when she's tired and gets one bottle a day (soon to be none).

  • She is still relatively calm, but definitely has her opinions and is a bit more clingy at times, maybe a little separation anxiety.

  • It's difficult to predict at this age, but the doctor thinks she might end up taller than Livvi, maybe 5'8".

  • She has 12 teeth, including her 1 yr molars.

Everything is perfect!

ONE-YEAR CHECKUP
Joie had her doctor appointment on 1/8/2008 and she is perfectly healthy!  Praise the Lord!  Here are the stats:
Height:  30 inches (75th percentile)
Weight:  23 pounds, 3 ounces (90th percentile)
Head size at 95th percentile

1 year molars are coming in. (this, an occasional lost pacifier and occasional hunger shortly before it’s time to get up seem to be the only things keeping her from sleeping through the night - and us, too).

2 shots, only cried for a minute and was back to smiley self.

The Dr. noticed she is a flirt and very funny. Never get tired of hearing “She’s perfect”.  She:

  • eats well, and has yet to find a food she doesn’t like

  • has started walking, taken 5-6 steps a couple of times, though still prefers to crawl for efficient travel

  • can stoop over to pick something up and stand back up

  • likes to stoop and look through her legs

  • tries to write and brush her hair

  • can roll and throw a ball.

  • can climb our steps to the second floor in a matter of seconds with barely a misstep (we try to supervise this activity)

  • loves to play by herself for awhile and will sit and look through a book or magazine

  • helps us dress her by putting her arms through her sleeves, and can take her pants off once they are over the tush.

  • knows where her belly is.

  • will blow her food to cool it

  • shake her head “no” if offered something she doesn’t want

  • is usually laid back, but if something is taken away that she really wants to have, she will throw herself on the floor in loud protest

  • doesn’t talk much (yet) – says mama, dada, yucky and aw while hugging a doll or stuffed animal. There are other mumblings and whispers we don’t understand.

  • uses a few signs not found in any ASL dictionary – fish, duck, dog (which she uses for everything else too if she doesn’t know what to call it), flower, hi, hold it/have it, and points at what she wants

  • likes to hug and loves people and lights up when she sees mommy, daddy, or Livvi

  • will make noises or fake cough to get people’s attention, even strangers

  • loves things with buttons, like the remote, much to daddy’s dismay and will hold the phone to her ear

  • is funny and loves to make silly faces, copying or being copied, including in the mirror

  • teases by putting things on her head as a “hat”

  • loves music and will clap and dance along

Overall, we are blessed to have two beautiful, funny, smart girls!

NINE-MONTH CHECKUP
Joie also had her doctor appointment on 9/18/2007 and she is also perfectly healthy!  Praise the Lord!  Here are the stats:
Height:  27.75 inches (60th percentile)
Weight:  21 pounds, 8 ounces (90th percentile)
Head size at 55th percentile

She also got a hepatitis B shot and a hemoglobin iron test.  As for normal development, she crawls on her hands and knees very fast.  She also pulls up to her knees and occasionally to her feet.  She is a pretty calm baby, but will complain if something she's playing with is taken away.  She is starting to eat chunky solids and can have nearly everything the rest of us are having.  So far, loves spaghetti sauce and regular oatmeal.  She is also getting the hang of the sippy cup.  Sporadically, she'll wave "hi" and says "mama".  Also, Jo uses pincer grasp very well.

Six-Month Checkup
18 pounds, 3 ounces (80th percentile)
26 inches long (60th)
Head size (60th)

Joie also got 3 more shots. Jo follows objects with her eyes, turns to noise, knows her name, her ears are "perfect". She has moved from mostly babbling to mostly screaming for attention and to hear her voice. Her lower left tooth should be coming in soon, uppers are months away. She rolls like crazy and loves to play with and chew her toes. She will transfer toys from one hand to the other. Though she is strong enough to support herself on her knees (and she loves to stand), she doesn't crawl yet. She does scoot or drag herself. The doctor says it won't be long before she is crawling. She also can sit unassisted for a while. The doctor said she is looking even more like her dad (good lookin' kid!). The doctor said she is above average in development, not just size!  We were also given a food schedule for introducing solids to her diet.

Four-Month Checkup
14 pounds, 3 ounces (70th percentile)
24 inches long (40th)
Head size (35th)

Joie also got 4 more shots. The doctor was surprised Joie could roll over from back to side (she can do back to front, now).  She is always wanting to sit up.  She can start having fruits and veggies at 5.5 months, but not before.  She is laughing and smiles quite a bit!  Doctor was also glad she is grabbing at things and getting them to her mouth.  Not sure what the big deal is, Daddy's been doing that for quite a while.  All is well!

Three-Month Checkup
12 pounds, 13 ounces (50th percentile)
22.5 inches long (10th)
Head size (25th)

Joie didn't have any shots this time. The doctor seemed impressed with her tone and ability to reach and bat at things.  She also said Joie has a great head...nice and round. She goes back next month.

Also, last month they heard an innocent heart murmur.

Two-Month Checkup
11 pounds, 7 ounces (almost 75th percentile)
22 inches long (almost 50th)
Head size (10th)

Additional info from Heather:
Joie got 4 shots. :-(  They also upped her Axid prescription to 1ml (for acid reflux).  The dr. didn't expect her to be as big as she is. She still has some spitting up issues, but not as much as she did have. The dr. said she will be taking Axid until 4 months old.

Dr was surprised when she tried to roll over while the dr. was examining her (she has been rolling over since 5 weeks old and pushing up since just days old).  The dr. said Joie was clenching her butt cheeks. I said she's strong all over.

I think she has been sleeping great at night usually 2-3 hrs at a time, sometimes a bit longer. The dr. said to put 2 tsp of rice cereal in the one bottle we give her to see if it helps her acid reflux at night and helps her to sleep better. The dr. didn't yell at me :o) for letting her sleep on her belly since that is the only way she'll sleep and she's strong enough to push up.

Joie is also smiley and reaching for faces mostly, but hands and toys some too. She is "talks" and gestures just like Livvi did (though not as often). She is also serious and pensive, scrunching her eyebrows to listen or understand what's going on.

She is very healthy and the dr. was pleased with her (told me I'm doing a good job, which is always nice to hear.  :-)

One-Month Checkup
8 pounds, 15 ounces (50th percentile)
20.5 inches long (25th)
Head size (10th)
All that, acid reflux medicine, and a shot, and she is doing great!

Part Dolphin?
Our precious new girl just might be part dolphin.  Check out the sounds she makes in this video.

She's Here!
Joie was too excited to wait and she decided to come 4 weeks early:

Another Girl!
On 9/6/2006, we found out Livvi will be getting a sister.  We expect Josephine Love (Joie) to arrive mid January.  Here are some pictures.

We're Expecting #2!
